My Autobiography

My Autobiography

At this stage in my life, it is worrying that I have never made a written recording about any event that has happened to me. Neither important nor a basic one. Nevertheless, I believe that this might be the chance to make a deep reflection about all the facts that have contributed to build up the person that I am today.

I was born on August 6th, 1993 on a beautiful and small village called Gigante located at the south of the Capital of Huila (Neiva). I was raised in this little town with the help of my mother, my father and an aunt. I think my parents were a little bit disorganized while the raising process that they were carrying out with me since they were economically unprivileged and they had to work very hard on full-time jobs.
Consequently, they did not have enough time to share with me and to offer to that little 6 year-old kid crucial aspects on a child´s raise. Nevertheless, I could learnt a lot from my parents and from different relatives who participated on my raising process. I consider that all the features that best describe me are just the result of picking up meticulously different values and characteristics from my parents.

I started my education process officially at kindergarten when I was four. I started to have contact with children similar to me who had social realities just like me. I remember enjoying a lot sharing time with other guys who are still my best friends and who always support me in every situation that I experience. It is good to mention that I did not have any kind of education in a foreign language and now I think I would have been nice though.
I carry out the primary and secondary studies at Normal Superior School. Not surprisingly, I do love this school since the institution provided me with invaluable notions of education and ideas of what life is about. In this school, I had good and bad teacher as everything in life cannot be flawless. I consider that I had some mediocre teachers who did not contribute to enhance my motivation towards the learning of a second language.
Despite the last unfortunate fact, I did like English so much. When I was fourteen, I remember listening to songs in English. Due to I did not have internet connection easily I tried to write the lyrics on a notebook. As I did not have a good command of the second language, it was a mess since what I used to do was just to write nonsense words paying attention to their sounds.
When I was eighteen, I was lucky enough to have a really nice English teacher. She inspired me to learn more and to exploit that potential that some teachers used to say, and that actually I thought I had. I enjoyed myself participating in those fun singing contest and Spelling Be contests where I learned trying to do my best. I have to say that I barely ever won one of them since I am very bad at singing.
After finishing high school, I stopped learning English because of the fact that it was a little obscure the way that I had planned to become a professional. In other words, I did not know exactly what to do after school. I used to live just with my mother, and my father figure was my eldest brother who was in the Colombian Air Forces. In this sense, he was my role model and I wanted to be just like him and follow his steps. Surprisingly, my parents did not support me when I wanted to enlisted in the Air Forces. It was the worst new that I could receive. Now I did not know what to do in life to success and to achieve all the personal goals that I had.
I decided to start a customized and on-site English course in Neiva city where I started to like even more the English language. Its length was one year, and I learned so much. I met foreign people who were my teachers and classmates. After I finished the course, I took a canine handler course which I enjoyed and learned so much about dogs. Then I started to work at a dam where I had to work with dogs in the security field. I used to like my jobs since I love dogs, and I was not supposed to do a hard job. Besides, the payment was great, and I had the chance to help my mom with some regular housing costs.
Honestly, I was really happy with my job for many reasons, but I felt that I did not find myself entirely. With this in mind, I make the difficult decision of leaving my job to start studying English that was what really caught my attention since I was at school. From the moment I start college, I started to feel really comfortable with what I was doing. Finally, after working on different stuff, I felt it was the right one. I started to reinforce the weak basis that I had regarding the English language. From the beginning, I obtained good grades in most of the courses that I took, and I think I performed very well.
I am definitely aware that had the most valuable opportunity to meet an authentic excellent teacher who encouraged me to work harder till the end while learning the second language. Cesar Castillo was my English teacher for three semesters. He provided me not only with information and knowledge about the English language but with the appetite for transforming the way English is taught, and love for the language. Sadly, professor Cesar had to continue pursuing his dreams and had to move to Canada.
In general, I have liked so much the experience while learning English. I consider that I have not come across with a strong barrier that may impedes my normal performance or development in the degree. I realize how privileged I am to be able to interact with really good teachers who are characterized by their commitment and love for teaching. I hope they continue transmitting me that love for the English teaching profession in order for me to become a successful professional who does what he really loves.
